Jamal Murray Sprains Ankle in Nuggets’ Urgent Loss to Mavericks
UPDATE: The Denver Nuggets face an urgent situation as point guard Jamal Murray sprained his right ankle during a tough 131-121 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on November 27, 2023. The injury occurred early in the third quarter, raising immediate concerns about Murray’s availability moving forward.
After gingerly walking to the locker room, Murray returned to finish the quarter, but he did not reappear for the final 12 minutes of the game. Coach David Adelman confirmed that Murray will undergo evaluation on Tuesday, highlighting the significance of his potential absence. “It’s a huge absence, obviously, offensively,” Adelman stated. “Jamal’s such a tough player. If he sits himself because of the pain, it probably hurts. I’m hoping he can come back for the next game.”
Murray, who was averaging a career-high 24 points per game this season, finished the match with 10 points and 9 assists. His absence could be felt heavily as the Nuggets aim to bounce back from their fourth consecutive home loss.
Teammate Spencer Jones, who scored a career-high 28 points, expressed the impact of losing Murray in crucial moments: “It definitely was a hit, especially coming down the stretch. Everybody knows the deadly pick-and-roll of Mal and Nikola Jokic. We definitely struggled.”
This injury adds to the Nuggets’ growing list of sidelined players. Murray joins fellow starters Aaron Gordon, who is recovering from a right hamstring injury, and Christian Braun, out with a left ankle sprain. Gordon, injured on November 21, is not expected back until late December or early January. Braun, who sprained his ankle on November 12, is projected to miss at least six weeks.
Adelman addressed the situation, stating, “I’m not going to come in here any night and sit down and talk about guys that are out. We have enough here to be more consistent defensively.” The Nuggets will need to rally without their key players as they prepare for their next matchup. The team is facing a critical juncture in the season, and the health of Murray will be pivotal.
As the Nuggets await further news on Murray’s condition, fans and analysts alike will be monitoring the situation closely. The immediate future of the team hinges on the recovery of its star point guard and how quickly they can adapt in his absence.
This developing story will continue to unfold, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
