Urgent: Southeast Side Residents Capture Break-In Attempt on Camera
SAN ANTONIO, TX – Residents on the Southeast Side are grappling with a rising tide of crime and a noticeable decline in police presence. A shocking incident unfolded early Sunday morning, when an attempted break-in was captured on home surveillance cameras around 2:15 a.m.
Harrison and Savana Yount were startled to see a man lurking in their backyard, knocking on their back window. “I immediately grabbed my phone, called the police,” Savana Yount recounted, describing the chilling moment. The video shows the suspect trying to open their back door before police arrived and apprehended him shortly after the 911 call.
“My big thing was I didn’t want to confront him and spook him,” added Harrison Yount, emphasizing the importance of letting law enforcement handle the situation.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the individual involved was experiencing a mental health crisis, but further details are unavailable at this time. Residents are now voicing their concerns over increasing gunfire in the area. “It’s pretty scary ‘cause you never know what people are intending to do,” said a neighbor identified as Amber.
The Younts, alongside other locals, have noticed a sharp decline in police patrols since the closure of Kate Schenck Elementary, which previously had officers monitoring the area throughout the day. “There has been a lot less officers patrolling the area because the school is no longer there,” one resident explained.
Amid these concerns, some residents are finding comfort in community connections. “We know our neighbors, we love the neighborhood,” Savana Yount stated, reflecting on the need for vigilance and awareness.
The community is now calling for increased police presence as crime maps indicate a troubling trend. As this situation evolves, residents are left to wonder what measures will be taken to ensure their safety. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as authorities respond to the growing concerns of Southeast Side residents.
