Cattlemen Hit Back at Trump: ‘We Built This Success Ourselves!’
URGENT UPDATE: The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association has issued a fierce rebuttal to President Donald Trump following his controversial remarks about American cattle ranchers. On Wednesday, Trump claimed that ranchers’ recent success is solely due to his administration’s tariffs on imported cattle, including a staggering 50% tariff on Brazilian beef.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the association contested Trump’s assertion, stating, “The reality is that ranchers’ success is driven by their own hard work.” This response comes as tensions rise between the cattle industry and the White House, with ranchers emphasizing their dedication to providing the safest and highest-quality beef globally.
Trump’s comments suggested that without these tariffs, ranchers would be struggling as they have for the past two decades. He stated, “It would be nice if they would understand that, but they also have to get their prices down, because the consumer is a very big factor in my thinking, also!”
The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association didn’t hold back in their reply, stressing that ranchers cannot support Trump while he undermines their future by allowing increased imports of Argentinian beef to manipulate prices. They urged the administration to allow cattle markets to operate freely without interference, stating, “If the administration is truly an ally of America’s cattle producers, we call on him to abandon this effort to manipulate markets.”
The association highlighted critical issues, urging Trump and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins to focus on essential investments that protect the domestic cattle herd from foreign diseases and to address regulatory burdens affecting family farms. They specifically called for the completion of the promised New World Screwworm facility in Texas and action against the growing threat of black vultures.
As the cattle industry faces unprecedented challenges, ranchers are calling for an end to policies they believe could jeopardize their livelihoods. The implications of this ongoing conflict could have significant consequences for America’s ranching community and the consumers who rely on them for quality beef.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as ranchers and officials navigate this contentious landscape.
