Driver Arrested for DUI After Fatal Pedestrian Collision in SJ
UPDATE: A man has been arrested for DUI following a tragic incident in San Jose where he struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the arrest took place shortly after the collision, which occurred around 7:15 PM on the northbound transition ramp from Highway 87 to Interstate 280.
Witnesses report that the driver, a 57-year-old resident of San Jose, lost control of his Hyundai and collided with a man in his 40s who was standing on the right shoulder. Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, marking a devastating loss for the local community.
CHP Officer Ross Lee stated that the driver was found to be under the influence at the time of the incident. His name has not yet been released as the investigation is ongoing. This collision has caused significant disruptions, with the ramp closed for approximately three hours while investigators gathered evidence.
