House Dem Leader Suspends Rep. Ajay Pittman Amid Ethics Probe
URGENT UPDATE: House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson has suspended Representative Ajay Pittman amid a major ethics investigation. This decision comes just days after the Oklahoma Ethics Commission filed a lawsuit accusing Pittman of fraud, significantly escalating the scrutiny surrounding her financial practices.
Earlier today, Munson confirmed that Pittman, a Democrat representing Oklahoma City, is facing serious allegations that warrant immediate action. The Ethics Commission’s lawsuit reveals Pittman may have failed to properly reimburse campaign funds, despite a previous settlement in 2024 that imposed fines totaling $35,000 for multiple violations of campaign finance rules.
The recent findings are alarming. In August 2024, Pittman allegedly made a payment of $5,000, and in January 2025, she submitted a check for $2,500. However, the Ethics Commission discovered that this check was not deposited into the designated campaign account, raising further questions about her financial integrity.
The investigation intensified when a formal complaint was filed earlier this year, prompting the Ethics Commission to vote last week to prosecute Pittman in Oklahoma County District Court. In light of these developments, she has been suspended from all House Democratic Caucus activities and assignments, including her role on House committees.
Republican House Speaker Kyle Hilbert has confirmed that Pittman was removed from her position on the Tribal-State Committee as part of this ethics probe. Munson stated, “While we maintain that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, the allegations regarding Rep. Ajay Pittman are severe enough that action was warranted.”
The House Democratic Caucus is committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring that all elected officials uphold ethical standards. Munson emphasized that they will refrain from further comments until the investigation concludes.
As details continue to unfold, the implications of this case could affect not only Pittman’s political future but also public trust in elected officials in Oklahoma. The Attorney General is expected to release further findings as the investigation proceeds.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as it impacts the political landscape of Oklahoma and the integrity of its representatives.
