Trump Vows to Resolve Afghanistan-Pakistan Crisis “Very Quickly”
UPDATE: U.S. President Donald Trump has declared he will resolve the escalating Afghanistan-Pakistan crisis “very quickly,” as peace talks between both nations enter their second day in Istanbul. This announcement comes amid intense regional tensions following deadly clashes earlier this month that marked the most severe fighting in years.
This urgent situation has raised alarms in a region where militant groups, including al-Qaida, are attempting to resurface. The ongoing conflict has resulted in dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries, significantly straining relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Both countries accuse each other of aggression, further complicating the fragile peace.
Trump made his remarks on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, where he noted, “I heard that Pakistan and Afghanistan have started up. But I’ll get that solved very quickly.” His comments are expected to invigorate Pakistan’s political and military leadership, who are eager for stronger ties with the U.S.
The peace talks, initiated on Saturday, aim to transform a tentative ceasefire, established earlier this month in Doha, into a sustainable framework for peace and border security. Reports from Taliban-controlled media outlet RTA indicate that after 15 hours of discussions, the Afghan delegation proposed a draft emphasizing that Pakistan must not violate Afghanistan’s territory or airspace and must prevent any anti-Afghan groups from using its territory.
“We are ready to establish a four-way channel to monitor the ceasefire agreement and share information on violations,” RTA reported.
Pakistan’s representatives also submitted a draft during the negotiations, but immediate comments from the Pakistani government were not available. However, Trump’s commitment to fast-tracking a solution is likely to boost hopes for progress in the ongoing dialogue.
This latest development highlights the urgency of stabilizing a volatile region where the implications of ongoing conflict can have far-reaching consequences. With both nations at a critical juncture, the international community watches closely as the talks unfold.
As conversations continue, the focus remains on establishing a lasting peace framework. Observers are keenly interested in how Trump’s involvement may shape the trajectory of these high-stakes negotiations.
Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops rapidly. The world is awaiting a resolution that could reshape peace in South Asia.
