Urgent Recall: Two Candy Bars Linked to Life-Threatening Allergens
URGENT UPDATE: Just days before Halloween, Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory has issued a critical recall of two popular candy bars due to the risk of severe allergic reactions from undeclared nuts. The announcement, made on October 24, 2023, has sent shockwaves through the candy community as families prepare for the holiday.
The recall affects Zingerman’s full-size Peanut Butter Crush bars and Ca$hew Cow bars, which may contain undeclared cashews and peanuts, respectively. This poses a significant health risk to individuals with allergies to these nuts, potentially leading to life-threatening reactions.
Zingerman’s stated that the potentially hazardous candy bars were distributed to retailers in Michigan and New York. The Peanut Butter Crush bars are packaged in distinctive yellow and purple boxes marked with Lot #174250, while the Ca$hew Cow bars are found in light blue and yellow packaging with the same lot number.
Authorities confirmed that the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the Peanut Butter Crush bars were mistakenly packaged without a warning about the presence of cashews. Similarly, the Ca$hew Cow bars were found to lack labeling regarding peanuts. Zingerman’s attributed the issue to a “temporary breakdown” in their production and packaging processes.
While the company has not reported any illnesses linked to the recalled products, they are urging consumers to take immediate action. “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to cashews or peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” Zingerman’s cautioned in an official statement.
Consumers who have purchased these candy bars are advised to return them to the point of sale for a full refund. Zingerman’s has assured the public that measures have been implemented to prevent future occurrences of this issue.
As Halloween approaches, families are urged to check their candy supplies meticulously. The heightened risk of allergic reactions underscores the importance of food safety during this festive season. Stay alert and prioritize safety as you prepare for the celebrations ahead.
