UPDATE: In a stunning turn of events, the University of Central Florida (UCF) suffered a devastating 30-3 loss to Baylor on October 28, 2023, marking the Knights’ seventh consecutive road defeat. This defeat raises serious concerns just days before their critical matchup against Houston on Friday, known as the annual Space Game.

The Knights have struggled significantly on the road, now holding a dismal 3-11 record away from their home stadium since the start of the 2023 season. Coach Scott Frost emphasized the urgency to improve, stating, “We’ve got to earn one on the road. It’s not going to be given to us.” The team has averaged just 12 points per game on the road while allowing a staggering 28 points in their last three outings.

UCF’s offensive performance against Baylor was particularly alarming. Despite facing a defense ranked near the bottom in the Big 12, the Knights managed only 74 rushing yards on 23 carries, their lowest output since November 2022. “We’ve got to start fast,” said junior receiver Duane Thomas Jr., highlighting the team’s need for a solid start moving forward.

Baylor’s quarterback Sawyer Robertson dismantled UCF’s defense, completing 73% of his passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns. This performance raises questions about UCF’s ability to contend against dual-threat quarterbacks, as they prepare to face Conner Wegman of Houston next.

In a surprising decision, coach Frost confirmed that starting quarterback Tayven Jackson will remain in the lineup despite a lackluster showing against Baylor—just 151 passing yards and two interceptions. “I know what kind of game he can have,” Frost stated, underscoring his commitment to Jackson as the team gears up for the pivotal Houston game.

Adding to the disappointment, kicker Noe Ruelas saw his impressive streak of 11 consecutive field goals end when he missed a 53-yard attempt in the third quarter. Ruelas had previously scored UCF’s only points with a 45-yard field goal just before halftime, leaving fans and players alike eager for a turnaround.

As UCF looks to regroup, the urgency is palpable. The team must address its struggles and find a way to break the road losing streak against a formidable Houston squad. The pressure is on as the Knights prepare for the Space Game this Friday at Addition Financial Arena.

With their season hanging in the balance, all eyes will be on UCF to see if they can finally turn their fortunes around and claim a much-needed victory.
