Molly Ratermann’s Comedy-Horror ‘Making a Bridesmaid’ Wraps Post-Production
UPDATE: Molly Ratermann has just announced that her directorial feature debut, “Making a Bridesmaid,” has officially wrapped post-production and is gearing up for a festival run in 2026. This urgent development is set against the backdrop of a unique blend of comedy and horror, aiming to captivate audiences with its thrilling narrative and sharp satire.
Set in the picturesque Lake Tahoe, California, “Making a Bridesmaid” follows two outcast sisters, portrayed by Emily Kincaid and Ratermann herself, as they navigate a “basic bitch” bachelorette weekend that turns into a deadly murder game. This film promises to deliver laughs and chills as the sisters are forced to compete for bridesmaid spots in a life-or-death scenario.
The film, produced by 741 Films and Little Hand Productions, is described as a satirical take on the pressures women face in a competitive social landscape, mirroring the tones of films like “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Bridesmaids.” Ratermann, who also serves as writer and producer, emphasizes the film’s exploration of female identity and rivalry, stating,
“It’s a feel-good horror with pastel-neon textures, a synth-pop pulse, and a powerhouse ensemble driving the story.”
The ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Serra Naiman, Wilder Yari from “The Lincoln Lawyer”, and Alex Sgambati from “The Walking Dead.” With an engaging lineup, this film is set to resonate with both male and female audiences by highlighting the layers of female socialization.
American Cinema Editors (ACE) President Sabrina Plisco is on board as editor and producer, marking her debut in this capacity. Cinematographer David Newbert, known for his work on “Willy’s Wonderland,” contributes to the film’s visual storytelling. The executive production team includes industry veterans such as Finn Bruce and Darren Cogan.
As “Making a Bridesmaid” moves towards a picture-locked status, Ratermann expresses hope that the film will not only entertain but also spark curiosity and conversation about female dynamics. The film is poised to be a significant entry into the genre, showcasing the complexities of women’s experiences while delivering a thrilling narrative.
Stay tuned for further announcements regarding premiere plans and sales representation as the film approaches its festival debut. This is a project that is sure to generate buzz and excitement in the film community!
