BREAKING: The Atlanta Braves have just announced a significant roster decision, exercising their option on second baseman Ozzie Albies while declining options on pitchers Pierce Johnson and Tyler Kinley. This move is expected to reshape the team’s dynamics ahead of the 2026 season.

Albies, 28, will receive a $7 million salary in 2026 as part of a $45 million deal spanning nine years. Despite hitting a career-low .240 with 16 home runs and 74 RBIs last season, the Braves are banking on his potential to rebound in the upcoming year.

In a contrasting move, the Braves opted out of Pierce Johnson‘s contract, choosing a $250,000 buyout over a $7 million salary. Johnson, 34, had a solid year with a record of 3-3 and a 3.05 ERA across 65 relief appearances, striking out 59 in 59 innings.

Meanwhile, Tyler Kinley will also not return, as Atlanta has decided on a $750,000 buyout instead of his $5 million salary. Kinley, who turns 35 in January, was acquired from the Colorado Rockies at the trade deadline. He delivered an impressive performance for the Braves, going 5-0 with a 0.72 ERA in 24 games after joining the team, contributing to a 6-3 overall record and a 3.96 ERA in 73 appearances.

Additionally, the Braves confirmed they are retaining left-hander Chris Sale by picking up his $18 million option for the 2026 season. This decision showcases the team’s commitment to maintaining a strong pitching lineup as they head into a crucial offseason.

These moves come as the Braves prepare for the 2025-26 MLB offseason. Fans are eager to see how these decisions will influence the team’s strategy moving forward. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as the Braves continue to reshape their roster.
