South Carolina Woman, Nicknamed “Gator Girl,” Catches Massive 12-Foot Alligator
BREAKING: A South Carolina woman, just months after giving birth, has made headlines by catching a colossal alligator measuring 12 feet and weighing 597 pounds. Brittany Livingston, now famously dubbed “Gator Girl,” achieved this remarkable feat in September 2025, capturing the attention of local residents and social media alike.
The Livingstons shared footage of their extraordinary catch, showcasing the massive alligator in their pickup truck, which quickly went viral. “We had a lot of eyes on us,” Brittany stated during an interview with Live 5 News. “People were waving, giving thumbs up… even the workers at McDonald’s came outside to see it.” The couple even made a memorable stop at a West Ashley McDonald’s drive-thru with the gator in tow, further captivating the community.
Brittany’s journey to this impressive catch began five years ago when she first applied for an alligator hunting tag through the South Carolina lottery system. In this year’s draw, her name was selected for Unit 4, which covers the Pee Dee region. “You gain preference points each year,” Brittany explained. “This year, I finally had enough.”
Every hunting season, over 12,000 applicants vie for just 1,400 available tags, managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. This system is aimed at maintaining alligator populations while addressing nuisance issues. “The goal is not to eliminate alligators,” said Jay Butfiloski, the state’s ex-alligator program coordinator. “It’s to allow some harvest, which helps manage the population.”
The Livingstons’ battle with the alligator lasted several hours, culminating in a successful hunt just after 3:00 a.m. when they were able to dispatch the creature to ensure safety and compliance with hunting regulations.
This remarkable story is not just about a hunting achievement; it underscores the thrill of outdoor life and the unique experiences of those who embrace it. Brittany’s determination and the excitement of the catch have resonated with many, sparking discussions on social media about wildlife management and hunting traditions.
As the story continues to unfold, many are eager to see how Brittany Livingston and her family celebrate this momentous occasion. Stay tuned for more updates on this extraordinary tale from South Carolina, as “Gator Girl” and her massive catch capture hearts across the nation.
