UPDATE: Milwaukee’s Pat Murphy has been named the National League Manager of the Year for the second consecutive season, securing 27 of 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. This announcement, made on Tuesday night, underscores Murphy’s exceptional leadership as he guides the Brewers to a historic season.

Murphy’s 2024 campaign propelled the Brewers to a remarkable 97-65 record, marking a franchise best and showcasing a stunning turnaround from second place in the NL Central as of early July. The team achieved a staggering 29-4 streak during the season, which included a franchise-record 14-game winning streak. Their playoff journey was highlighted by a memorable victory over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Division Series, marking the Brewers’ first postseason series win since 2018.

The last NL manager to win this award back-to-back was Bobby Cox for the Atlanta Braves in 2004 and 2005. Murphy, who turns 67 on November 28, previously served as Milwaukee’s bench coach for eight years before stepping up as manager following Craig Counsell’s departure to the Cubs in November 2023.

The competitive landscape was fierce, with Philadelphia’s Rob Thomson and Cincinnati’s Terry Francona as notable contenders. Thomson led the Phillies to a strong 96-66 record and a second consecutive NL East title, while Francona guided the Reds to a wild card spot—Cincinnati’s first playoff appearance since 2020.

Looking ahead, the announcement of the Cy Young Award winners for both leagues is set for Wednesday, followed by the MVP reveals on Thursday. These upcoming awards promise to keep fans on the edge of their seats as the MLB Awards Week continues.

As the Brewers celebrate Murphy’s achievement, this recognition not only highlights his impressive management skills but also serves as a testament to the team’s resilience and determination throughout the season. Fans are eager to see how this momentum will carry into the offseason and beyond.
