UPDATE: Christopher Newport University (CNU) has made history by finishing their football regular season unbeaten for the first time ever, crushing The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) 27-7 on Friday night in Ewing. This stunning victory solidifies their perfect record at 10-0 and showcases their dominance in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

In a game filled with impressive performances, quarterback Connor Barry proved his All-American potential, completing 18 of 26 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He also showcased his versatility with a rushing touchdown, further elevating CNU’s chances for a strong postseason run.

Wide receiver Colin Hart made headlines by becoming the all-time receptions leader for the program, pulling in seven passes for 101 yards. Hart’s achievement adds a personal milestone to a team celebrating collective success.

Gunner White also made a significant impact, catching a touchdown pass and rushing for 83 yards on 19 carries. CNU’s Coach Paul Crowley has led the Captains to a staggering 15-game winning streak dating back to last season, cementing their status as a formidable contender in the upcoming playoffs.

The Captains broke a scoreless tie with Zavier Kennedy scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run with 7:20 left in the second quarter. CNU then extended their lead with Barry’s 11-yard TD pass to Josh Powell, heading into halftime with a commanding 14-0 advantage.

In the third quarter, Barry added to the lead with a 2-yard touchdown run, making it 21-0. TCNJ’s Joe Visaggio ended CNU’s shutout bid with a 17-yard touchdown run late in the game, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. Barry capped the scoring with a 3-yard pass to White with just 1:54 left in the game.

With this victory, CNU now awaits the official announcement of the NCAA playoffs bracket, set to be revealed at 5 p.m. Sunday on NCAA.com. The Captains are expected to receive a first-round bye and could potentially host a game in the round of 32, raising anticipation among fans and alumni alike.

This historic season not only highlights the skill and determination of the players but also marks a pivotal moment for CNU’s football program, which began in 2001. As the playoffs approach, all eyes will be on the Captains to see how far their winning streak can carry them.
