Gerald R. Cote, Former GE Vice President, Passes Away at 85
UPDATE: Gerald R. Cote, a respected former Vice President of General Electric, has passed away at the age of 85 on November 12, 2023, in Niskayuna, NY. This loss is felt deeply not only by his family but also by the community he impacted throughout his illustrious career.
Born on July 21, 1940, in Derry, NH, Cote graduated from Pinkerton High School and later earned a degree in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His career with General Electric spanned over three decades, where he held various leadership roles across multiple locations, ultimately rising to the position of Vice President. His professional journey included significant assignments in Louisville, KY, and Schenectady, NY.
Jerry was not only a dedicated professional but also a passionate sports enthusiast. He excelled in three sports during high school and continued to play football at the collegiate level. As a father, he cherished coaching his late son, Brian, in little league and high school baseball, leaving a lasting legacy of support and encouragement.
Later in life, Jerry discovered a love for golf, which became a significant part of his routine, allowing him to connect with friends and family. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, eagerly following every game and sharing those moments with loved ones.
Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally Cote, and son, Brian Cote. He is survived by his two sons, Andrew (Sydney) and Christopher (Julia), along with two great-grandchildren, Sunday and Archer, who brought him immense joy in his later years.
In accordance with Jerry’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Those wishing to honor his memory can make memorial contributions to The Foundation for Ellis Hospital, located at 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
This news marks a significant moment for those who knew him and reflects the profound impact he made in both his personal and professional life.
