UPDATE: Costco has just expanded its recall of the Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene due to serious safety concerns, affecting over 941,400 bottles. Customers in twelve states are urged to take immediate action as certain unopened bottles may explode unexpectedly, even when left untouched.

The initial recall was announced in September, affecting around 400,000 bottles. However, as of November 6, 2025, the scope of this recall has significantly increased, alarming consumers nationwide. The affected product is sold in green bottles with a purple foil top, labeled as “Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.”

The recall impacts customers in the following states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, for products purchased between April 25 and August 26, 2025.

If you believe you purchased one of these bottles, do not open it under any circumstances. Instead, wrap it tightly in paper towels, place it in a thick plastic bag, and dispose of it in your regular household garbage. Do not attempt to return it to Costco, and keep your recall notice for a refund, even without a receipt.

Costco is prioritizing customer safety and advises anyone injured by broken glass or cork to seek immediate medical attention. Document any incidents, as they may be crucial for future safety investigations.

For questions or refund claims, Costco members can contact Ethica Wines at 786-810-7132 during business hours or via email at [email protected].
