UPDATE: The annual tree decorating event hosted by Bethlehem Mayor J. William Reynolds took place today, November 21, 2025, at the city center, bringing festive cheer to local elementary students. This year, third graders from Freemansburg and Miller Heights Elementary Schools adorned the city’s Christmas tree with handcrafted ornaments amidst a backdrop of holiday music and community spirit.

Students participated in decorating the tree while enjoying lunch, snacks, and festive songs led by the Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program of the Lehigh Valley. The event not only celebrated the season but also fostered a sense of community among children and their families.

As excited children sang carols, Liberty High School provided live musical performances, creating an uplifting atmosphere that resonated with attendees. The event highlighted the importance of community engagement and holiday spirit, as students interacted with local law enforcement, including Officer William Rodriguez, who helped the children hang their ornaments.

The joy was palpable as students like Skylar from Freemansburg Elementary eagerly selected books with the help of Kylie Sheridan, a member of the Moravian women’s basketball team, showcasing the event’s focus on literacy and learning. Meanwhile, culinary students from the Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School delighted attendees with festive cupcakes they decorated, adding to the celebratory mood.

Beverly A. Bradley, president of the Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program, welcomed the students with enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of such events in promoting literacy and community bonding.

Looking ahead, the excitement will continue as the selected students will return next week to join Mayor Reynolds in lighting the holiday tree, an event that promises to be a highlight of the festive season.

With the holiday spirit in full swing, the Bethlehem community is reminded of the importance of togetherness and joy during this special time of year. This annual tradition not only brings festive cheer but also strengthens the bond among residents, making Bethlehem a beacon of holiday spirit in the Lehigh Valley.

Stay tuned for further updates on the upcoming tree lighting ceremony, and join in the celebration of community, joy, and holiday cheer!
