CD Projekt Red Confirms No Release for The Witcher 4 in 2026
CD Projekt Red has officially announced that the much-anticipated game, The Witcher 4, will not be released in 2026. The update came during a Q&A session at the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call, where executives addressed various development topics, including the upcoming Cyberpunk 2.
During the call, CEO Michał Nowakowski and CFO Piotr Nielubowicz provided insights into the current status of The Witcher 4. Nowakowski confirmed that the game is in its “full-scale production phase,” but did not disclose any specific details regarding its target release date. “The only thing we’re commenting is that we’re not launching in 2026,” he stated.
While the announcement may disappoint fans eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Witcher franchise, Nowakowski offered some optimism. He mentioned that future games in the series could be released within a shorter timeframe, suggesting a trilogy could be completed over the next six years. “In a way, yes, I do believe that further games should be delivered in a shorter period of time,” he noted, emphasizing the development plan for The Witcher 4 and its sequels.
Fans recently recognized The Witcher 4’s potential by nominating it for the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards 2024. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nowakowski expressed gratitude for the nominations but cautioned fans not to expect new content from the game at this year’s awards.
“I’m very happy to see The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. Thanks to everyone who has already voted – your support means a lot to us,” he said. He further confirmed that no new content would be presented during the awards ceremony, maintaining the excitement surrounding the game while managing expectations.
The Witcher 4 is set to be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. Although no official release date has been announced, the storyline will unfold after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game will feature a new narrative led by Geralt’s adoptive daughter, Ciri, with Doug Cockle reprising his role as Geralt and Ciara Berkeley voicing Ciri, taking over from Jo Wyatt.
As anticipation builds, fans will have to wait longer than hoped for the next chapter in this beloved franchise, but the promise of shorter development cycles for future games offers a glimpse of hope for those eager to explore the world of The Witcher once more.
