Community Mourns the Loss of Rosalie Silverglate Anderson

The community of Riverside, California, is in mourning following the passing of Rosalie Silverglate Anderson on November 23, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on April 9, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, Rosalie’s legacy is marked by her deep commitment to her family, her Jewish faith, and her community.

Rosalie moved to Riverside with her family at the age of eight, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for the warmth and beauty of Southern California. Her parents, Lou and Cecile Katz, played a significant role in establishing Riverside’s Temple Beth El, underscoring their commitment to Jewish life. This foundation fostered Rosalie’s dedication to the principle of Tikkun Olam, the responsibility to repair the world, which she embraced throughout her life.

After attending Longfellow Elementary School, Rosalie pursued higher education at Riverside Community College and UCLA, where she met her first husband, Leonard Silverglate. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and a master’s in Public Administration from UC Riverside. Rosalie dedicated her career to public service, notably as the Assistant Director of Community and Housing Development for the City of Riverside, advocating for the improvement of neighborhoods to enhance community well-being.

Her first marriage to Leonard was a partnership filled with love that lasted until his passing in 1993. In 1996, she married James Anderson, and together they shared many joyful years enriched by family and travel. Rosalie was known for her radiant smile and her ability to foster connections among people.

Beyond her professional achievements, Rosalie had a diverse range of interests. She enjoyed playing tennis, reading, gardening, and flower arranging. Her enthusiasm for bringing people together and creating beauty in her surroundings was a hallmark of her character.

Rosalie is survived by her husband, James Anderson; her children, David Silverglate (Suzanne), Sharon Silverglate, and Janet Silverglate (Micha); as well as her grandchildren, Nathan, Lee, and Steven Silverglate, Max Kauert (Danielle), and Lena Kauert. She also leaves behind step-grandchildren, Jackie Brennan (Brandon) and Aaron Anderson, along with great-grandchildren Noa and Jack Kauert. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Ken Katz (Ann), and James’s children, Jim Anderson (Mary) and Linda Namminga (Sam).

Rosalie was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Aaron and Gerald Katz, as well as her first husband, Leonard Silverglate. Her family and friends remember her as a blessing in their lives, and her absence will be deeply felt.
