Creative Writing Student Explores Love Through Poetry
A fresh exploration of love through poetry has emerged from the creative mind of Tully Zapotosky, a student at Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC). In a recent piece featured in the Post Bulletin, Zapotosky reflects on the multifaceted nature of love, drawing connections to popular culture and personal experiences.
Zapotosky’s poem articulates a deep contemplation of love, likening it to various elements of life. The comparison to Matthew McConaughey and a memorable scene from Julia Roberts‘ film, Pretty Woman, sets the tone for an introspective journey. The poem describes love as essential for existence, much like the serene sound of church bells on a Sunday morning.
Throughout the piece, Zapotosky uses vivid imagery to convey the emotions associated with love. He describes it as a “dance” rather than a mere thought, emphasizing the physical and emotional connections forged through gestures like hand-holding and eye contact. These reflections reveal the romantic intricacies that come with vulnerability and the thrill of taking risks.
Food, Love, and Personal Reflections
The poem takes an interesting turn by intertwining love with the longing for food, particularly gluten-laden treats. “My tummy knows and longs for what could put it in knots or a set of butterflies,” he writes, cleverly merging the desire for culinary delights with the complexities of romantic affection. This metaphor illustrates how love can evoke both joy and pain, mirroring the bittersweet experience of yearning for something unattainable.
Moreover, Zapotosky touches upon the distress of dietary restrictions, likening the feeling of being gluten-free to the challenges of love. This comparison adds a relatable layer to his narrative, inviting readers to reflect on their own experiences with desire and absence.
Zapotosky’s poem encapsulates the essence of love as a “game” and a “dance,” suggesting that it is not only about the end goal but also the journey itself. He captures the nuances of love, from its exhilarating highs to its poignant lows, making it a universal theme that resonates with many.
