Aurora Siblings Shine in the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Asher and Emily Lesniak, siblings from West Aurora High School, performed in the 99th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 27, 2025, in New York City. They were selected to join the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, which featured approximately 180 talented high school musicians from across the country.

The excitement was palpable as the duo took part in the iconic event. “It was thrilling to be amid all of the gigantic helium balloons,” said Asher Lesniak, 16. Both siblings have been playing their respective instruments—trumpet and saxophone—since elementary school. Their dream of performing on such a grand stage became a reality during this memorable Thanksgiving celebration.

The band showcased a mix of Disney-themed and holiday songs during the parade. Leading up to the event, the Lesniaks participated in several rehearsals, including an early morning session at 3:30 a.m. on the day of the parade. “When we arrived at Macy’s Herald Square for the rehearsal, it felt surreal,” Asher recalled. “Everyone in the band seemed to be jumping with excitement.”

Emily Lesniak, 17, expressed her amazement at being able to march in Manhattan. “I never thought I would actually be part of the parade. It was really cool,” she said. Their parents, David and Lydia Lesniak, traveled to New York to witness their children’s performance. David Lesniak, a band director at Plainfield East High School, has his own parade experience, having performed in both the Macy’s parade and the Rose Bowl parade with the Band Directors Marching Band.

The family shared a special moment as they watched from the Grand Stand on Central Park South. “Fortunately, we saw their rehearsal earlier this week, so we knew where to look for them,” Lydia Lesniak said. “It was a fantastic moment to see our children in the spotlight, enjoying what they love to do.”

Marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is no small feat. The early rehearsals and preparations highlight the dedication and enthusiasm of young musicians like Asher and Emily Lesniak. With their shared passion for music, the siblings’ experience will undoubtedly remain a cherished memory, inspiring them to continue pursuing their musical endeavors.
