Tom Brady Declines to Support Patriots in Super Bowl Showdown
Tom Brady has confirmed that he will not be supporting the New England Patriots during the upcoming Super Bowl. The legendary quarterback, who spent two decades with the Patriots, also expressed that he will not be cheering for the Seattle Seahawks, the team he famously defeated in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
Reflecting on his decision not to root for his former team, Brady stated, “I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one,” during an interview with Jim Gray on the Let’s Go! podcast. This year marks the Patriots’ first Super Bowl appearance since his departure, a significant milestone for both the team and its fans. Brady acknowledged the changes in New England, noting, “This is a new chapter in New England,” and expressed his pride in the current roster and coaching under Mike Vrabel.
Brady’s relationship with the Patriots has evolved since his retirement in early 2023. He has since been inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame, had his jersey retired, and a life-sized statue unveiled in his honor. Despite these accolades, he remains neutral regarding the Super Bowl outcome.
As a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, Brady now finds himself in a complex position. The Raiders are reportedly set to hire Klint Kubiak, the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, as their next head coach after the Super Bowl concludes. This new affiliation adds a layer of interest for Brady, who commented on the various phases of his career, stating, “You have different chapters and moments that you go through… Now in a different phase in my life I root for people and people I really care about.”
With regard to his predictions for the Super Bowl, Brady emphasized the unpredictability of the game, asserting that any team can emerge victorious on any given day. However, he also shared his belief that if the Patriots and Seahawks were to compete ten times, the Seahawks would likely win six of those matchups, while the Patriots would secure four victories.
As the Super Bowl approaches, Brady’s reflections highlight the deep connections and transformations that define an athlete’s career. His insights serve as a reminder of the complexities that come with transitioning from player to commentator and owner, revealing his enduring passion for football and the evolving landscape of the sport.
