Police report that a 16-year-old male driver has been arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit and run following the devastating incident that unfolded on Friday morning.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., a Toyota Corolla carrying five juveniles collided with another vehicle near the intersection of 14th Avenue and East 31st Street. The teenage driver fled the scene, merging onto Interstate 580 as the struck vehicle pursued him, providing police with critical details about the crash.

In a chaotic turn, the suspect exited the freeway at 35th Avenue, speeding southbound before being involved in a second collision. This impact caused the Corolla to crash into a concrete wall, leading to severe injuries for all its occupants. Emergency responders rushed the girls to local hospitals, where the 15-year-old was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

The conditions of the other three girls involved in the crash remain unclear as of Sunday morning. Meanwhile, the driver was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition and subsequently placed under arrest by police.
