UPDATE: Bill Belichick has secured his first win against a Power Four school as North Carolina dominated Syracuse with a score of 27-10 on October 31, 2025, at the JMA Wireless Dome. This victory marks a significant milestone in Belichick’s coaching career at UNC, as it is also his first win against an ACC opponent.

The game showcased a struggling Syracuse team that started true freshman quarterback Joe Filardi, who faced immense pressure from the Tar Heel defense. Filardi completed only 4 of 18 passes for a mere 39 yards, illustrating the challenges the Orange faced due to injuries this season.

North Carolina’s offense was led by quarterback Gio Lopez, who performed impressively, completing 15 of 19 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Demon June also shone, rushing for 101 yards and adding 81 yards receiving, contributing to both a rushing and receiving touchdown.

Belichick expressed his relief and satisfaction after the game, stating, “Feels good. Feels great. We had a couple of opportunities the last couple of weeks that we couldn’t capitalize on. It was good to get this one. So we look forward to all the rest of the games in the ACC.”

North Carolina had struggled to score against FBS teams earlier this season, with their previous wins against 1-7 Charlotte and Richmond from the Patriot League. The Tar Heels’ performance against Syracuse suggests a turning point as they look to build momentum.

Looking ahead, North Carolina aims to leverage this victory against Stanford (3-5) next Saturday, while Syracuse, now on a five-game losing streak, seeks redemption against Miami on the same day.

As college football fans anticipate the next round of games, this win could be pivotal for Belichick and the Tar Heels as they strive for success in the ACC.

Stay tuned for more updates as North Carolina continues its season and Syracuse attempts to bounce back from this disappointing stretch.
