Boulder County Traffic Alerts: Major Road Closures This Week
URGENT UPDATE: Major traffic disruptions are set to impact Boulder County this week, with significant road closures and construction projects affecting daily commutes from November 1-7. Residents and travelers are advised to plan ahead as multiple routes face delays.
The most pressing concern is the 28th Street improvements project, which spans from Pearl to Iris. Starting immediately, the northbound 28th and Valmont Road RTD Stop No. 17992, serving the 205 and BOLT routes, will be temporarily relocated south of the Valmont intersection. This change will remain in place until December 31.
In another critical development, crews have begun work on the 19th Street and Fourmile Canyon Creek Underpass. Effective immediately, northbound 19th Street will be closed between Sumac and Upland, with all traffic detoured via Quince. This closure is expected to last until April 1, as the bridge over Fourmile Canyon Creek is replaced and a new bike/pedestrian underpass is constructed.
Additionally, the 63rd Street waterline replacement project will see closures on 63rd, Andrus, and 62nd Streets from Jay to Valmont. Although through traffic will be blocked, access for businesses and residents will be maintained. This work is also anticipated to conclude by April 1.
Milling and paving operations on Colorado 7 are ongoing, with alternating double-lane closures expected until December 15. Restrictions will be in place from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road.
Further complicating matters, lane closures will occur on Sugarloaf Road near Betasso Road due to two culvert replacements, which are expected to cause travel delays into November. Access to the Betasso Preserve will remain open, but visitors should anticipate disruptions.
The City of Boulder is also conducting a waterline replacement project affecting 63rd Street, expected to create traffic impacts through February. This includes a full closure of 63rd Street between Jay Road and Twin Lakes Road until mid-November.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is working on the Colo. 119 safety, mobility, and bikeway construction, with completion anticipated in spring 2027.
In Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation project is underway at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard, continuing through March 2026. While no lane closures are planned, brief delays may occur as work trucks access the site.
Drivers should also prepare for lane closures at the intersection of Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive for a traffic signal installation project running through December on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m..
Finally, Weld County will enforce full closures on WCR 1.5 between Erie and WCR 3, as well as on WCR 3 between WCR 10 and 10.5 until November 26 for maintenance, with closures in effect 24 hours a day.
Residents are urged to stay updated on traffic conditions and plan alternate routes to avoid delays. For the latest updates, check local news sources and municipal announcements.
