UPDATE: In a thrilling showdown, Brother Rice has claimed the Class 7A state championship, defeating St. Rita with a commanding score of 16-0 on December 3, 2025, at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb. The Crusaders’ victory marks their first state title since 1981, igniting celebrations among players and fans alike.

Junior defensive lineman Brayden Parks, a standout player who is garnering attention from top college programs including Notre Dame, Alabama, and Ohio State, was pivotal in the win. With an impressive performance showcasing six tackles—including 3.5 for loss—and three pass breakups, Parks helped stifle St. Rita’s offense, which had been riding a seven-game winning streak.

“We came, we saw, we won,” Parks exclaimed after the game, reflecting on the hard work and dedication that led to this momentous triumph.

The Crusaders’ defense proved unyielding, allowing only 160 yards throughout the game. Parks emphasized the relentless nature of the defensive front, stating, “There are only five offensive linemen and there are four of us on the D-line, so you’re not going to be able to double team at least three of us.” This tactical advantage was crucial in neutralizing St. Rita’s offensive threats.

Offensively, CJ Gray was instrumental for Brother Rice, rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown, while also connecting with Colin Goggin for a crucial 9-yard TD pass that secured the win. The Crusaders, now boasting a record of 13-1, showcased their depth with Jaylin Green contributing 104 yards on the ground and Kameron McGee adding two sacks.

The victory is especially sweet for Brother Rice, as the program had faced heartbreak in previous championship games in 1985 and 2018. Coach Casey Quedenfeld praised his team, stating, “This Class of ’26 came in when I moved here from Houston and they bought into a vision. And now it just came into fruition.”

As the celebrations commence, Parks remains focused on continual improvement, having already been recognized as the co-defensive player of the year in the Catholic League Blue. “My run defending took a big step,” he noted, emphasizing his commitment to enhancing his skills.

This historic win not only solidifies Brother Rice’s place in high school football history but also sets the stage for future endeavors, with Parks and his teammates eager to build on this success. The brotherhood forged on and off the field is palpable, with Parks stating, “We always go out there feeling like we’re going to win. With all that talent around me, I know we’re going to get it done.”

Fans and alumni are invited to celebrate this momentous achievement as Brother Rice revels in its hard-earned glory—an inspiration for future generations.
