Cameron Boozer Scores 35 Points, Ties Duke Freshman Record
UPDATE: Freshman sensation Cameron Boozer has electrified the basketball world with a phenomenal performance, scoring 35 points in just his fourth game for the Duke Blue Devils. This remarkable feat occurred during a dominant 100-62 victory over Indiana State on November 10, 2023, marking him as a standout player in the early college basketball season.
Boozer’s impressive tally ties him for the second-most points ever scored by a Duke freshman, right behind Cooper Flagg‘s record of 42 points last season against Notre Dame. Duke head coach Jon Scheyer praised Boozer’s competitive nature, stating, “Just his approach. He’s such a competitor.” His scoring prowess is now matched with legends like Zion Williamson and Jared McCain, both of whom also scored 35 points in their freshman years.
In a highly efficient display, Boozer shot 13 of 16 from the field, including both attempts from beyond the arc. Although he struggled slightly at the free throw line, going 7-for-11, his overall performance left fans and coaches in awe. “I don’t know how you could be more efficient,” Scheyer added, noting Boozer’s ability to rebound his own missed shots.
Boozer also excelled in other areas, contributing 12 rebounds and 5 assists, showcasing his all-around game. Teammate Caleb Foster remarked on Boozer’s aggressive style, stating, “He gets it down in the paint, he’s going to attack the rim; it’s hard to stop him.”
As Boozer averages 22.5 points per game heading into a crucial matchup against No. 25 Kansas on Tuesday night in New York, expectations are soaring. Scheyer emphasized Boozer’s character and potential, urging him to be even more aggressive in scoring opportunities, saying, “I actually want him to be more aggressive with his scoring.”
Fans are buzzing about Boozer’s potential as he continues to carve out his place in Duke’s storied basketball legacy. With his remarkable debut season still unfolding, all eyes will be on him as he prepares to face off against Kansas, a matchup that promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent.
Stay tuned for more updates as Cameron Boozer’s journey unfolds, and watch for his impact on the Blue Devils’ quest for glory this season.
