Cayenne Electric Becomes Porsche’s Heaviest Model at 5,831 lbs
UPDATE: The new Cayenne Electric has officially claimed the title of the heaviest production vehicle from Porsche, tipping the scale at an astounding 5,831 pounds (2,645 kilograms) without a driver. This groundbreaking electric SUV also generates an incredible 1,139 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet (1,500 Newton-meters) of torque when utilizing its launch control feature, making it the most powerful Porsche ever built.
The Cayenne Electric’s heavy weight surpasses the previous record holder, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe, which weighed 5,721 lbs (2,595 kg). This shift not only marks a significant moment in Porsche’s history but also highlights the growing trend of weight increases in electric vehicles. The Turbo variant adds another 110 lbs (50 kg) to the Cayenne lineup, solidifying its status as the “porkiest” model to emerge from the company’s Zuffenhausen headquarters.
With a massive 113-kWh battery pack weighing approximately 1,322 lbs (600 kg), the Cayenne Electric Turbo’s weight is comparable to an entire car; the famous Porsche 356 SL weighed just 1,410 lbs (640 kg) and won its class at the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Despite its hefty build, the Cayenne Electric Turbo is not the heaviest electric SUV on the market. The combustion-free Mercedes G-Class recorded a staggering 6,801 lbs (3,084 kg), while the Mercedes EQS SUV is close behind at 6,792 lbs (3,081 kg). U.S. electric SUVs also dominate in weight, with the Cadillac Escalade IQ reaching a colossal 9,134 lbs (4,143 kg) and even the lighter Rivian R1S at 7,068 lbs (3,205 kg).
Porsche’s history of increasing vehicle weights traces back to its first generation Cayenne, which was developed during Ferdinand Piëch‘s era at Volkswagen. The original Cayenne weighed in at 5,191 lbs (2,355 kg) and set the foundation for what would become a trend in luxury and performance SUVs.
Looking ahead, Porsche is not slowing down. A new three-row SUV is under development, originally designed as a purely electric model. However, it will debut with combustion engines before an EV version arrives, likely pushing Porsche’s weight record even higher in the near future.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the Cayenne Electric’s record-breaking weight and power redefine the landscape for electric SUVs, compelling enthusiasts and consumers alike to rethink what performance and luxury mean in the electric era.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Porsche continues to innovate and push boundaries in the electric vehicle market.
