Cupertino City Council Names Tina Kapoor Permanent City Manager
UPDATE: Cupertino has officially appointed Tina Kapoor as its permanent city manager following a unanimous vote by the City Council on November 18. Kapoor, who has served as interim city manager since May, stepped into her new role immediately on November 19.
This significant decision marks a pivotal moment for Cupertino, as Kapoor brings nearly 25 years of local government expertise to the position. She has previously held key roles in Cupertino, including interim assistant city manager and deputy city manager. Before that, she was instrumental in economic development initiatives in both Fremont and San Jose, focusing on business growth, downtown revitalization, and workforce development.
Kapoor’s accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. In 2015, she was recognized as a Woman of Influence in Silicon Valley by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Notably, she is also Cupertino’s first Indian American city manager, having immigrated to the United States from India in 1999.
In her new role, Kapoor will oversee all municipal operations and implement the City Council’s policy directions while advancing Cupertino’s priorities. “I look forward to supporting our strong city team and collaborating with council and the community to maintain the high level of service that the city provides to our residents while developing a vision for the city’s future,” Kapoor stated in an official release.
Mayor Liang Chao expressed confidence in Kapoor’s leadership, saying, “Tina Kapoor’s experience, work ethic, and leadership make her exceptionally well-suited to guide Cupertino forward. She has been a great partner for the City Council since her interim appointment, and I look forward to working with her to continue strengthening our organization.”
This development is crucial for Cupertino residents and local stakeholders, as Kapoor’s leadership is expected to enhance the city’s service delivery and vision for future growth. As she begins her tenure, all eyes will be on how she will shape the city’s policies and community engagement efforts.
Stay tuned for further updates on Kapoor’s initiatives and impacts on the Cupertino community.
