Indiana Awards $42M in Recycling Grants; New PNW License Plate Launches
BREAKING: Indiana’s Recycling Market Development Board has just announced a groundbreaking initiative, awarding a staggering $42 million in grants to enhance recycling efforts across the state. Among the beneficiaries, Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. in Lake County is set to receive $301,011 to divert an additional 32,812 tons of recyclable material each year.
This urgent funding aims to create 42 jobs and prevent nearly 197,884 tons of waste from entering landfills annually, significantly impacting environmental sustainability in Indiana. The grants, administered by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, are part of a larger strategy to bolster the state’s recycling infrastructure.
In addition, the Indiana Dunes Tourism has launched a new grant program totaling $50,000 to fund community projects and marketing initiatives that attract visitors to Porter County. Applications are open until December 1, 2023, with recipients announced on January 5, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance local tourism and economic growth by fostering unique events and projects.
Meanwhile, Dr. Marrium Siddiqui, a new infectious disease physician, has joined the Franciscan Physician Network in Crown Point. Dr. Siddiqui is now accepting new patients at the Specialty Center, enhancing healthcare accessibility in the region. For appointments, call 219-769-8340.
Additionally, Purdue University Northwest is set to unveil a new specialty license plate starting in January 2024. This initiative allows Indiana residents to showcase their school spirit while contributing to scholarships for PNW students. Lastly, the Northwest Indiana Influential Women Association has opened applications for its mentorship program, aimed at empowering the next generation of women leaders. Interested candidates must submit their applications by December 3, 2023, to participate in this impactful initiative.
