Joseph Angelo Legueri Passes Away at 81, Remembered with Laughter
BREAKING: Joseph Angelo Legueri has peacefully passed away at the age of 81 on October 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy celebrated for its humor and love of life. Known for his unwavering spirit during his battle with Alzheimer’s, Joe’s passion for life was evident until the very end.
Joe was a beloved figure in the community, starting his teaching career at Duluth Cathedral in 1967 and continuing to inspire students until his retirement in 2001. Those who had the privilege of being in his classroom often recall his signature phrase, “The heck you say,” a testament to his engaging teaching style.
In 1962, Joe’s charm captured the heart of Shirley Legueri, whom he married and shared 58 years of marriage with. Together, they created a warm home in the woods, raising their two children, Tony and Gina Haggard, while embracing life’s adventures. Joe’s love extended to his grandchildren, Thomas, Cooper, and Kelsie, whom he taught the importance of silliness and unconditional love.
Joe was the cherished son of Dorothy and Angelo Legueri from Nashwauk. He was known for his playful antics with his four sisters: Patti Williams, Jeannie Sunnarborg, Margie Legueri, and Marianne Cable. An accomplished handyman, Joe built the family home and was passionate about restoring cars, notably his pride, a 1948 Studebaker.
In a departure from traditional services, Joe’s family invites friends to honor his memory in a unique celebration. They encourage attendees to raise a glass, share stories—true or embellished—and laugh heartily, reflecting the way Joe lived his life.
This heartfelt send-off is a reminder of the joy Joe brought to many lives and the importance of celebrating life with laughter. As friends and family gather to remember him, they are encouraged to keep his spirit alive through shared stories and cherished memories.
Stay tuned for updates on memorial arrangements and how the community plans to honor Joe’s enduring legacy of love and laughter.
