Law Enforcement Prepares Holiday Gifts for 417 Kids in Oklahoma
UPDATE: In a heartwarming initiative, law enforcement and Sunbeam Family Services have launched holiday preparations, aiming to deliver toys to 417 children this Christmas in Oklahoma City. As the holiday season approaches, these organizations are committed to ensuring that every child experiences the joy of receiving gifts.
The shopping event took place on Wednesday, with local law enforcement officers passionately selecting toys for children of all ages. “For some of those families, this may be the only toys that they get,” said SGT. Tara Hardin of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office. With less than two months until Christmas, the urgency of this mission is undeniable.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the grandparents raising grandchildren shopping event, a long-standing collaboration with Sunbeam Family Services. “We are shopping for kids today that will culminate in a huge event in December when we give the presents away with Santa, elves, and even the Grinch sometimes showing up,” added SGT. Hardin, highlighting the excitement and community spirit of the annual event.
But the holiday gift-giving is just part of the support offered through this program. “We have a lot of wraparound services that this has expanded into, including mental health support for our grandparents and grandchildren if needed,” explained Brandi Rettman, Careteam Coordinator at Sunbeam Family Services. Throughout the year, they provide essential resources such as back-to-school supplies and community events, fostering a supportive environment for families.
As law enforcement officers meticulously crafted shopping carts filled with playful toys, the emotional impact of their efforts was clear. “We don’t want families to have to choose between necessities and the fun when you’re a child. Christmas should be fun,” SGT. Hardin stated, underscoring the importance of filling that gap for families in need.
For grandparents raising grandchildren who wish to participate in this program, Sunbeam Family Services invites them to get involved. The efforts of local law enforcement and community organizations demonstrate a powerful commitment to ensuring that the holiday spirit touches every child in Oklahoma City.
This initiative not only brings joy during the holiday season but also strengthens community bonds and provides crucial support for families facing challenges. Stay tuned for updates as the event approaches and more children are set to receive the gifts they deserve.
