Macklin Celebrini Named NHL First Star After Hot Streak
URGENT UPDATE: Macklin Celebrini, the standout rookie for the San Jose Sharks, has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Week following a remarkable performance on the Sharks’ recent four-game road trip. This accolade comes as Celebrini, just 19 years old, surged to third in the NHL with 15 points in nine games, energizing the struggling Sharks.
Celebrini’s latest achievement is a testament to his exceptional skills; he recorded 10 points over the last four games, including a thrilling overtime goal against the Minnesota Wild that clinched a 6-5 victory on Sunday. “I’m playing with really good players,” Celebrini remarked after the game. “I think we’ve been clicking.”
As the Sharks prepare to face the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, Celebrini is riding a four-game point streak, boasting five goals and five assists. This surge has propelled the Sharks to a recent recovery, winning two of their last three games after a dismal 0-4-2 start. With six points in their first nine games, it’s their best start since the 2021-22 season.
While Celebrini aims to lift the Sharks from the NHL’s bottom, he is also eyeing a spot on Canada’s Olympic team for the 2026 Winter Games. Competing against seasoned players like Mark Scheifele and Nick Suzuki won’t be easy, as only 14 forwards will be selected for the team, with a roster deadline of December 31.
In a heartwarming moment following Sunday’s game, Celebrini met with Luke Schumann, a young fan who recently overcame cancer. Schumann, diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last year, was declared cancer-free just in time to witness Celebrini’s growing success. “He’s my good luck charm,” Celebrini shared, highlighting the emotional connection and inspiration Schumann brings to his journey.
Despite the Sharks’ offensive improvements, they face challenges on defense, currently ranked last in the NHL with 4.67 goals allowed per game. As they head into their next matchup, Celebrini and his teammates will need to solidify their defense to maintain momentum.
In other news, Sharks winger Tyler Toffoli is set to play his 900th NHL game against the Kings, marking a significant personal milestone. Drafted by Los Angeles in 2010, Toffoli has made a remarkable impact in the league, contributing to his team’s success throughout his career.
Stay tuned as the Sharks look to build on their recent successes and see if Celebrini can sustain his impressive form. The excitement around his performance and the team’s potential is palpable as they strive for a playoff push.
