Makhachev Dominates Della Maddalena to Capture Welterweight Title
BREAKING: Islam Makhachev has made history by capturing the welterweight championship at UFC 322, dominating Jack Della Maddalena in a five-round unanimous decision victory. The fight took place on October 21, 2023, at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Makhachev’s win marks his 16th consecutive victory, tying the legendary Anderson Silva for the longest winning streak in UFC history. With a record of 28-1, Makhachev continues his remarkable journey, maintaining a decade-long unbeaten run. He showcased his prowess with an astonishing 19 minutes and 10 seconds of control time, thoroughly outstriking Della Maddalena 123-32.
“This is the dream,” Makhachev exclaimed after the victory. “All my life I’ve fought for this. I worked hard for this moment.” His decisive performance left no doubt about his capabilities, as he executed every takedown attempt against Della Maddalena, who struggled to respond.
Della Maddalena, with a record of 18-3, had not tasted defeat since his early career setbacks. However, he found himself overwhelmed as Makhachev’s relentless pressure and strategic calf kicks rendered him ineffective. By the third round, Della Maddalena was resigned to his fate but managed to avoid a stoppage.
“My life has changed,” Makhachev stated, highlighting the advantages of moving up to welterweight. “I didn’t have to cut weight. I can do what I want. It made this night easy.”
Makhachev’s victory not only solidifies his status as one of the greatest lightweights in UFC history but also sets the stage for an exciting new chapter in the welterweight division, filled with dynamic fighters poised for competition.
As the dust settles on his latest triumph, Makhachev is already eyeing his next challenge. “Open the White House,” he declared, alluding to the UFC’s major event anticipated for 2026. “I am coming.”
This victory is a significant milestone for Makhachev, and fans are eager to see how his journey unfolds in the welterweight arena. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Makhachev prepares for his next fight.
