Miss Universe 2025 Crowned Amid Controversies and Scandal
UPDATE: The Miss Universe 2025 pageant concluded today in Bangkok, Thailand, with Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch being crowned the winner amidst dramatic controversies. The competition, held on November 4, 2025, was marred by incidents leading to multiple walkouts and a regime change in the organization’s leadership, making this year’s pageant one of the most controversial in history.
The event featured over 100 contestants from around the globe, showcasing their talents in a series of events. However, the lead-up to the finale was anything but smooth, with tensions flaring after a shocking incident where Nawat Itsaragrisil, the director of Miss Universe Thailand, publicly berated Bosch during a live stream, prompting several contestants, including Miss Universe 2024, to walk out in solidarity.
This latest incident is just one in a long history of controversies surrounding the Miss Universe Organization. Since its inception in 1952, the pageant has often found itself in hot water due to various scandals. For instance, in 1987, long-time host Bob Barker resigned after protesting the use of fur coats as prizes, leading to a significant policy change.
Additionally, Miss Puerto Rico faced a major scandal in 1994 when Brenda Robles was stripped of her title after it was revealed she was pregnant. More recently, in 2016, Kristhielee Caride, Miss Puerto Rico, lost her crown for publicly stating she disliked cameras, a statement that led to a high-profile lawsuit against the organization.
Miss Universe’s leadership has seen its share of upheaval, most notably with the recent departure of Anne Jakrajutatip as CEO. Just days before the 2025 pageant, on October 29, the organization announced that Mario Búcaro would take over, citing a need for a fresh vision amid financial troubles and public backlash against Jakrajutatip’s controversial remarks about contestants’ appearances.
The fallout from Jakrajutatip’s comments and the leadership change has left many contestants and pageant fans questioning the future direction of the Miss Universe Organization. Within the tumultuous atmosphere, Bosch managed to rise above the fray, ultimately securing the coveted title that now comes with its own set of expectations and challenges.
As the dust settles from this year’s pageant, many are left wondering how the Miss Universe Organization will move forward after such a dramatic season. The organization’s new leadership is expected to address pressing issues and restore its reputation as a leading global pageant.
With several contestants expressing solidarity and concern regarding both Bosch’s treatment and the overall management of the pageant, the road ahead remains uncertain. What remains clear is that the Miss Universe Organization must navigate these challenges carefully to rebuild trust and credibility within the pageant community.
