Mundelein’s Paige Prochnow Shines with 11 Aces, Perfect ACT Score

UPDATE: Mundelein’s standout volleyball player, Paige Prochnow, has made headlines with an incredible performance, racking up 11 aces in a single match earlier this season, setting a program record and landing among the top 30 in state history. As a 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter, Prochnow has been pivotal for the Mustangs, contributing 203 kills, 186 digs, and 51 aces this season.

The Mustangs are gearing up for the Class 4A McHenry Regional semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m., where they will face either McHenry or Round Lake in what promises to be an intense matchup. Prochnow’s commitment to her team is unwavering, both on and off the court.

“I always focus on building my teammates’ confidence,” Prochnow stated. “One of the biggest downfalls in volleyball is negativity. I strive to keep the energy positive.” This dedication was put to the test when she suffered an ankle injury during a game against New Trier, sidelining her for several weeks.

Despite the challenge, Prochnow remained focused, constantly seeking ways to improve her skills and support her teammates. “I had to accept a new role during my recovery, helping elevate my teammates from the bench,” she explained. Coach Jeff Blezien praised her resilience, noting, “Anything I’ve ever asked of her, she’s done to the best of her ability.”

In addition to her athletic prowess, Prochnow recently achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring a perfect 36 on the ACT. As she navigates her senior year, she is applying to colleges with aspirations of entering the medical field. “She’s one of the brightest students on our team,” Coach Blezien added. “Her commitment to academics and athletics is truly impressive.”

Prochnow’s energy is palpable on the court. “I’m a very loud player,” she said, acknowledging her quieter demeanor outside of volleyball. Her teammates recognize the vital role she plays in maintaining morale. “She lifts you up no matter what,” said senior defensive specialist Mellany Rodriguez. “She’s always there with a high-five, reminding you that you’re good.”

Reflecting on the nature of volleyball and life, Prochnow understands that mistakes are part of the game. “I focus on the next point rather than dwelling on errors,” she noted, a mindset that extends to her studies and personal life. “My parents have taught me how to handle tough situations, and I apply those lessons in every aspect of my life.”
