UPDATE: Residents in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, are on high alert after discovering they may be victims of a disturbing TikTok scam that has reportedly targeted at least 20 young women. Concerned homeowner Jearold Hersey revealed that since September 2023, young women have been knocking on his door seeking hair appointments scheduled through a TikTok page named “Nariah the Hairstylist.”

“This is freaking my son out,” Hersey stated, emphasizing the safety concerns that have arisen. Young women claim they were instructed to send a deposit via Cash App before receiving an address, which shockingly turned out to be Hersey’s home, as well as that of his neighbors.

“It’s kind of nerve-racking because you don’t really know who is coming to the door,” Hersey added. In response to the alarming situation, residents have posted warnings on their doors, alerting potential victims that their addresses are being misused for an online scam.

“Sometimes people see the sign and go away, and sometimes people bang on the door, yelling in front of our door,” he explained, underscoring the distress this scam has caused.

Authorities report that those affected are urged to file a police report. In a troubling encounter, Action News contacted the phone number listed on the TikTok page. The woman on the line claimed she would provide the location after receiving a $25 payment but abruptly hung up when questioned about the allegations.

Hersey expressed his hope that this alarming situation serves as a warning to others, saying, “I really want them to get caught. This isn’t cool. It’s not fair to the people; we feel unsafe as well.”

Philadelphia police are actively investigating the matter, urging any victims to come forward. As this situation continues to unfold, residents remain vigilant, hoping to prevent further incidents and protect their community.

This urgent issue highlights the growing concerns surrounding social media scams and their real-world implications. Stay tuned for updates as authorities work to address this alarming trend.
