UPDATE: The Oregon Ducks have achieved a historic milestone, breaking their program record for three-point attempts in a commanding victory against South Dakota State. The Ducks launched a staggering 40 three-pointers and converted 15 in a decisive 83-69 win on Wednesday night at Matthew Knight Arena.

After struggling with a 20.5% shooting percentage from beyond the arc this season, the Ducks showed significant improvement, with seven players contributing to the long-range success. Jackson Shelstad led the charge with 22 points and eight assists, while Takai Simpkins added 20 points. Nate Bittle also made his presence felt with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

This remarkable performance comes on the heels of a disappointing start to the season, where Oregon had made only 9 of their previous 44 attempts. The Ducks entered the game ranked 351st nationally for three-point shooting. Coach Dana Altman admitted it was not the initial game plan to shoot so many threes, stating, “That’s not us,” highlighting concerns over physicality and shot selection.

Despite the record-setting attempts, the Ducks managed to score 14 of their 18 points in the paint during the first half, largely due to offensive rebounds. Altman emphasized the need for better shot selection moving forward, as the team prepares for tougher opponents in the coming games.

In a thrilling matchup, South Dakota State rallied back to within a point at 61-60 with just over eight minutes remaining. However, Oregon quickly regained control with back-to-back threes from Shelstad, Evans, and Simpkins, ultimately closing the game on a 13-5 run to secure the victory.

As the Ducks improve to 3-0, they look ahead to their next challenge against Oregon State on Monday night. Altman remains optimistic, hoping to integrate the injured Devon Pryor back into the lineup, which could enhance their offensive strategies.

Fans are buzzing with excitement over the Ducks’ turnaround from three-point woes to record-setting attempts. The team’s ability to adapt and find success is sure to be a hot topic as they prepare for the competitive road ahead.

“We can’t have that going forward facing a lot tougher opponents,” Shelstad warned, indicating that while the win is a positive step, the Ducks must refine their approach to maintain success this season.
