Orioles Hire Craig Albernaz as New Manager to Revitalize Team
UPDATE: The Baltimore Orioles are set to hire Craig Albernaz as their new manager, according to sources close to the team. This decision comes after a tumultuous 2025 season that saw the Orioles finish last in the American League East with a record of 75-87.
The Orioles dismissed former manager Brandon Hyde mid-May after a dismal start of 15-28. In his place, Tony Mansolino served as interim manager for the remainder of the season. Albernaz, 42, is recognized as one of the most respected young coaches in baseball and is expected to bring fresh energy and strategic insight to the team.
Albernaz previously served as the associate manager for the Cleveland Guardians, who clinched the American League Central title this year. He was a finalist for the Guardians’ managerial position in 2023 and joined the team as bench coach when they opted for Stephen Vogt. His coaching journey began with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015, where he established a reputation for fostering strong relationships with players.
The Orioles boast a young and vibrant roster, featuring stars like Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Jackson Holliday. Albernaz’s ability to connect with young talent is a key factor in his selection, as the team looks to maximize its potential moving forward.
Despite the promising young hitters, Baltimore’s pitching struggled last season, limiting their success. The return of right-hander Kyle Bradish from Tommy John surgery offers some hope, but the team needs to address its pitching depth urgently. Albernaz will face the daunting challenge of competing in a tough AL East division that includes the reigning AL champion Toronto Blue Jays and a strong New York Yankees squad.
As the Orioles finalize this hiring, fans are eager to see how Albernaz will lead this team into the 2026 season. His first major league managerial role comes with high expectations, and the baseball world will be watching closely as he embarks on this new chapter.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Orioles prepare for a fresh start under Albernaz’s leadership.
