Oscar Isaac Open to Star Wars Return If Disney Changes Course
UPDATE: Oscar Isaac, the acclaimed actor known for his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise, has expressed conditional interest in returning to the galaxy far, far away. In a recent interview with GQ Magazine for its ‘Men of the Year’ 2025 series, Isaac stated he would consider reprising his role, but only if Disney addresses its current controversies.
Isaac’s comments come as fans eagerly await the next installment of Star Wars films, which have faced delays since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019. The actor reflected on a previous remark made to Deadline in 2020 about returning to the franchise only if he needed “another house or something.” He clarified, “I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney.”
The timing of Isaac’s remarks is crucial. His interview took place shortly after Disney pulled late-night host Jimmy Kimmel from air, following backlash over comments related to conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. This incident highlights ongoing tensions between the studio and its critics, particularly regarding its perceived capitulation to political pressures.
Isaac emphasized, “If they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.” His comments reflect a broader sentiment among artists and audiences alike, who are concerned about Disney’s handling of sensitive issues under the current Trump administration.
Earlier this year, Disney faced significant backlash for adhering to executive orders that dismantled its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, along with censoring storylines involving transgender characters across its various platforms. The studio’s actions have raised questions about its commitment to progressive values and its response to political pressures from influential figures.
As the Star Wars franchise navigates these challenges, the future of Isaac’s return remains uncertain. The difficulties Lucasfilm has encountered in getting new projects off the ground underscore the complexity of the situation. With ongoing debates about leadership and artistic integrity, it may take time before fans see Isaac back in the cockpit of an X-Wing.
For now, the Star Wars community watches closely as the franchise attempts to redefine its path forward. Isaac’s willingness to return could hinge on how Disney addresses these contentious issues and re-establishes its commitment to its creative vision.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as fans hope for a resolution that aligns with the values of both the creators and the audience.
