Rochester Teams Surge in State Girls Swimming Finals – Results Inside!

UPDATE: Rochester is set for a strong showing in the Class 2A girls swimming and diving finals this Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis! The competition heated up on the first day of the state meet, with teams from Rochester Century, Mayo, and John Marshall going head-to-head against top competitors.

Mayo’s 200-yard medley relay team, featuring Elise Weingarten, Corrina Tonn, Madeline Gau, and Penelope Hauser, clinched a spot in the championship finals by finishing eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:48.53. This performance underscores the team’s potential for All-State honors, as only the top eight finishers in each swimming event advance.

Rochester Century narrowly missed the championship cut, with their relay team of JiaYin Jian-Gross, Sophie Blixt, Chloe Magnuson, and Sarah Homme finishing ninth at 1:49.10. They will compete in the consolation finals alongside John Marshall’s team, which placed twelfth with a time of 1:49.98.

In individual events, John Marshall’s Julia Ogren showcased her talent, winning the preliminaries for the 100-yard butterfly with a remarkable time of 53.88. Ogren will also vie for a state title in the 100-yard freestyle, having secured sixth place in the prelims at 51.95. Strong performances from Blixt, who placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.37), and Gau, sixth in the butterfly (56.86), have set the stage for a thrilling finals showdown.
