Rochester Teams Surge in State Girls Swimming Finals – Results Inside!
UPDATE: Rochester is set for a strong showing in the Class 2A girls swimming and diving finals this Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis! The competition heated up on the first day of the state meet, with teams from Rochester Century, Mayo, and John Marshall going head-to-head against top competitors.
Mayo’s 200-yard medley relay team, featuring Elise Weingarten, Corrina Tonn, Madeline Gau, and Penelope Hauser, clinched a spot in the championship finals by finishing eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:48.53. This performance underscores the team’s potential for All-State honors, as only the top eight finishers in each swimming event advance.
Rochester Century narrowly missed the championship cut, with their relay team of JiaYin Jian-Gross, Sophie Blixt, Chloe Magnuson, and Sarah Homme finishing ninth at 1:49.10. They will compete in the consolation finals alongside John Marshall’s team, which placed twelfth with a time of 1:49.98.
In individual events, John Marshall’s Julia Ogren showcased her talent, winning the preliminaries for the 100-yard butterfly with a remarkable time of 53.88. Ogren will also vie for a state title in the 100-yard freestyle, having secured sixth place in the prelims at 51.95. Strong performances from Blixt, who placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.37), and Gau, sixth in the butterfly (56.86), have set the stage for a thrilling finals showdown.
The swimming community is buzzing with excitement as the finals approach, especially considering the intense competition. Blixt was the state runner-up in the breaststroke last year, intensifying the stakes for this year’s event.
Notably, Mayo’s relay teams are primed for success. Their 200-yard freestyle relay team finished fourth in prelims at 1:38.05, with John Marshall right behind them in fifth at 1:38.32. Both teams now advance to the championship finals, promising a fierce battle for the top spots.
In the Class 1A diving prelims, Gracie Greenman from Austin, who was last year’s state runner-up, will compete for a title in the 100-yard backstroke after finishing third in prelims at 57.97. This adds another layer of excitement to the upcoming championships, as the best of the best go for gold on Saturday.
The anticipation is palpable. With the finals just hours away, Rochester teams are ready to make waves. Fans and supporters are urged to tune in and cheer for their local swimmers as they strive for state glory.
As the clock ticks down to the finals, all eyes will be on the Freeman Aquatic Center, where dreams are realized and champions are crowned. The atmosphere will surely be electric, and the community is ready to rally behind their athletes. It’s all happening this Saturday—don’t miss a moment of the action!
