Second Suspect Charged in Fatal Ben Lomond High School Shooting

URGENT UPDATE: A 15-year-old male has been charged as a juvenile in the tragic shooting death of 16-year-old Mason Caballero near Ben Lomond High School on October 7. This second suspect was apprehended in Denver, Colorado, and has been charged with multiple serious felonies, including aggravated murder.

According to Captain Tim Scott of the Ogden City Police Department, the shooting occurred at the intersection of 5th and Grammercy Avenue in Ogden, Utah. The juvenile suspect faces a staggering total of 27 felony charges, including two counts of attempted aggravated murder and 25 counts of felony discharge of a firearm. He is currently being transported back to Utah for legal proceedings.

In a shocking twist, the suspect’s father, Fernando Renteria, aged 41, has been charged with obstruction of justice after allegedly assisting his son in fleeing the Ogden area following the incident. Renteria faces two counts of obstruction, which are classified as serious felonies.

The first suspect, Isaias Emanuel Carranza, 16, was detained on October 11 and similarly charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder, among other felonies.
