SNAP Benefits Begin Arriving in Erie County; Relief for Families
URGENT UPDATE: SNAP benefits are now arriving for households in Erie County, providing immediate relief to families in need. The New York State Department of Social Services confirmed that benefits started rolling out on November 12 and will continue through November 17.
A significant 96% of Erie County households enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive their full benefits this month. However, households expecting their first payments on new cases this month are excluded from this distribution. Families in this situation are strongly encouraged to seek assistance from local food pantries to ensure no one goes hungry.
“Families and individuals who rely on this vital program can once again put food on the table,” stated Karen Rybicki, commissioner of the Erie County Department of Social Services. She emphasized the importance of these benefits, especially after the uncertainty caused by the recent government shutdown that left many households anxious about their food security.
The announcement follows Gov. Kathy Hochul‘s directive to state agencies to expedite the issuance of full federal SNAP benefits for November, directly addressing the urgent needs of the community.
As the benefits continue to be distributed, authorities are urging residents to stay informed about their eligibility and to reach out for assistance if needed. The restoration of these benefits aims to alleviate the stress faced by many families, allowing them to focus on meeting their basic needs rather than worrying about where their next meal will come from.
Residents in Erie County can expect the remaining payments to be processed by the end of the week. To learn more about accessing SNAP benefits or finding food assistance resources, families can visit the Erie County Department of Social Services website or contact local food pantries directly.
This development is crucial for families struggling with food insecurity in the area and highlights the ongoing efforts of state officials to support the most vulnerable members of the community. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
