Southern California Pastor Sentenced to 45 Years for Child Abuse
UPDATE: A Southern California pastor, Carlos Ramirez Valdez, has been sentenced to 45 years to life in prison for the sexual assault of three young girls. This urgent development was confirmed by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office on October 24, 2025.
Valdez, 61, of Riverside, was arrested in 2021 and convicted in August 2025 for heinous acts committed between 2012 and 2019. During that time, he served as a church leader at Iglesia De Dios Ebenezer Church in Santa Ana from 2014 to 2017. At the time of his arrest, he was a pastor at International Mission Church USA.
The details of the assaults are chilling. Prosecutors revealed that one victim, starting at just 4 years old, was preyed upon by Valdez for seven years. He lured her into the church’s basement or his parked van to commit his crimes. It wasn’t until she confided in a school counselor that the abuse came to light.
Two other victims emerged by January 2020. One girl, who was only 9 years old, reported that Valdez molested her after giving her rides home from church between 2014 and 2015. Another victim, aged 7 and 8 at the time, revealed that Valdez repeatedly assaulted her in a backyard shed over an eight-month period in 2017.
Valdez was convicted of 11 felony counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14 and three felony counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration of a child 10 or younger.
“This is a reminder that churches should be safe sanctuaries, not hunting grounds for child molesters,” stated Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. He emphasized the urgent need for justice, declaring, “These young girls were subjected to unimaginable abuse by someone in a position of trust. The sexual exploitation of children will never be acceptable, and predators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
As this case unfolds, it raises critical questions about the safety of children in places of worship and the responsibility of communities to protect the most vulnerable. The implications of such crimes resonate deeply, highlighting the ongoing fight against child abuse in all its forms.
Stay tuned for more updates as authorities continue to address this serious issue.
