UPDATE: The monthly First Friday artwalk kicks off tonight in downtown Phoenix, promising an exciting night filled with art, food, and entertainment. Starting at 6 p.m., thousands are expected to flood the streets of Roosevelt Row and Grand Avenue, transforming the area into a vibrant street party.

This month’s First Friday is particularly compelling, with a dynamic array of events that cater to all ages. Galleries and museums will stay open late, providing free access to art and culture, making it an ideal evening for families and art enthusiasts alike.

Significantly, the Children’s Museum of Phoenix will offer free admission from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., while the Phoenix Art Museum celebrates Black History Month with a special evening of storytelling and poetry, also featuring free admission from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event will also see the return of the unique “First Friday With a Kink” market at Alwun House, showcasing erotic art and vendors catering to adult audiences, running from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets for this event are priced at $7 plus fees.

First Friday is now a staple of the Phoenix cultural scene, evolving from a gallery-focused event to a lively street fair featuring vendors, food trucks, and live music. Officials encourage attendees to take advantage of public transport, with the Valley Metro Rail offering an all-day pass for just $4, ensuring easy access to the festivities.

Parking is limited in the area; visitors are advised to arrive early or use nearby metered and free street parking options. The streets will be closed to vehicle traffic, allowing for safe foot traffic amid the bustling atmosphere.

As part of the evening’s offerings, guests can explore various exhibitions, including “Invasive Species” at eye lounge Collective at Modified Arts and a unique group show titled “A Show of Peace” at the First Studio Gallery.

Additionally, don’t miss out on the arts and culture celebration at the Heard Museum, which will host the opening of “Blue Bird,” exploring the cultural significance of the frybread brand in Native communities. The museum will be open and free to the public from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
