UPDATE: UCF safety Phil Dunnam is gearing up for a crucial road game against No. 6 Texas Tech this Saturday after an electrifying performance last Friday night. Dunnam made headlines by recording three interceptions in a narrow 30-27 loss to Houston, marking a significant turnaround in his season.

In a game that saw Dunnam return the first interception for a remarkable 43 yards to score his first career pick-6, he has quickly become a standout player in the Big 12. Previously, Dunnam had not intercepted a pass in the first eight games of the season, but his recent success has solidified his position as one of the league’s top defenders.

According to Pro Football Focus, Dunnam is now ranked as the second-best safety in the Big 12, trailing only Arizona’s Dalton Johnson. Dunnam’s impressive skills have not gone unnoticed, as defensive coordinator Alex Grinch praised his ability to make game-changing plays.

“It’s like hitting a lot of home runs in batting practice where you would like to save some for the game,” Grinch said, reflecting on Dunnam’s spring camp performance.

This week, Dunnam is focused on carrying his momentum into the matchup against Texas Tech (9-1, 6-1 Big 12), a team known for its explosive offense, averaging 42 points per game and racking up 477.2 yards of total offense. Dunnam expressed his determination, stating, “I’m trying to do it again. I’m trying to help this team in multiple ways as I can to get a win.”

As UCF prepares for this pivotal clash, all eyes will be on Dunnam to see if he can replicate his outstanding performance. The game promises to be a high-stakes encounter, with both teams looking for a critical victory in their quest for postseason positioning.
