Urgent Snow Forecast Triggers School Closures Across Hampton Roads

UPDATE: Significant snowfall is expected to impact Hampton Roads on Monday, December 8, prompting multiple school districts to announce closures and early dismissals. The National Weather Service warns that the region could see between 1 to 2 inches of snow, with a potential maximum of 4 inches in some areas under worst-case scenarios.

Snow is anticipated to begin falling between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., creating hazardous conditions for students and staff. As a precaution, several districts have taken swift action to ensure safety, with varying responses across the region.

Hampton City Schools will close two hours early, canceling all after-school programs, including PM preschool and Head Start classes. Night shift custodians are not expected to report.

Newport News has opted for a half-day dismissal, with all after-school events also canceled. Similarly, New Kent County public schools will close entirely on Monday.

In Poquoson, schools will operate on a half-day schedule, but all afternoon and evening activities are off the table.
