VTA Launches Urgent Veterans Pass for Discounted Fares Now
UPDATE: The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has just announced a special Veterans Pass, providing discounted fares for U.S. military veterans starting this Veterans Day. This initiative allows veterans to ride VTA buses and light rail for only $1.00 per single ride, a remarkable savings of over 50% off the standard fare.
This program, effective immediately and running through the end of the year, aims to enhance accessibility and affordability for those who have bravely served our country. Veterans can purchase the pass exclusively through the Token Transit app, ensuring a seamless experience for users.
To utilize the Veterans Pass, veterans must present valid proof of their status if requested by a VTA Operator or Fare Inspector. Accepted forms of identification include the Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), Veteran ID Card (VIC), Department of Defense (DoD) Identification Card, or a state-issued driver’s license with a Veteran’s designation.
VTA is not stopping there; they will also participate in the San Jose Veterans Day Parade to honor local veterans and celebrate their service.
For those interested in this vital program, more information can be found at vta.org or by contacting VTA Customer Service at (408) 321-2300.
IMPORTANT: The Veterans Pass is valid only during the pilot period, and any unused tickets will expire at the end of 2025. Future fare changes will involve public engagement and a thorough analysis to ensure fair access for all riders.
This innovative initiative underlines VTA’s commitment to supporting veterans in Santa Clara County and reflects a growing recognition of the importance of public transportation accessibility. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to save while honoring our heroes!
