William (Bill) Cain, Beloved Schenectady Figure, Passes Away at 88

BREAKING: Renowned Schenectady resident William (Bill) Cain has passed away at the age of 88, surrounded by family on November 6, 2025. His loss is deeply felt across the community where he was known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit.

Bill Cain is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Kathryn Cain, and their two children, Kim O’Connor and Karyn Tucker. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his seven grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply.

Born and raised in Schenectady, NY, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Tash, in 1958. He dedicated his career to the Schenectady Chemical Company and later, United Parcel Service. Upon retirement, Bill immersed himself in hobbies that brought joy and connection, including golf, baseball, and, most importantly, his passion for hunting and fishing.

Bill’s love for the outdoors was exemplified by the family camp he built in Ausable Forks, where countless memories were made with family and friends. He took pride in passing on his knowledge and love for these activities to his sons-in-law and grandchildren.

A proud veteran, Bill was an active member of various organizations, including the Marine Corps League and the VFW Ausable Forks. He was also affiliated with the Iroquois Rod and Gun Club and the Schenectady Ole Timers Baseball Club. His community involvement was not just a commitment but a passion, as he volunteered his time generously.

Bill was known for his infectious smile and engaging personality, making friends wherever he went. He had a gift for conversation and a genuine desire to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends, treating them like family.

Calling hours are set for Thursday, November 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Demarco-Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Schenectady. The funeral service will take place the following day, November 14, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy Schenectady Rd.
