Toheeb Jimoh Discusses His Role in Industry and Season Four Spoilers
In the latest episode of HBO’s acclaimed series Industry, Toheeb Jimoh’s character, Kwabena Bannerman, faces escalating tensions within the ruthless world of investment banking. Premiering globally on February 6, 2024, this fifth episode of the fourth season reveals shocking developments surrounding the dubious payment processing company, Tender, and its new CEO, Whitney Halberstram, played by Max Minghella.
Jimoh, who joined the cast this season, portrays Kwabena, a British trader navigating the treacherous waters of London’s financial landscape. The series, known for its portrayal of power dynamics and ethical dilemmas in finance, has garnered positive reviews for its gripping narrative and character complexity. Jimoh reflects on the essence of the show, stating, “I think the point of Industry is to try and understand what’s driving these characters to make the decisions that they’re making.”
Episode Highlights and Character Dynamics
As the plot thickens, Kwabena and his colleague Sweetpea (played by Miriam Petche) travel to Accra, Ghana, on a mission to investigate potential money laundering by Tender. Their journey leads them to Tony Day (played by Stephen Campbell Moore), Tender’s CFO in the EMEA region, who holds crucial information that could expose the company’s illegal activities. Jimoh emphasizes the seriousness of their findings, noting, “Tender is really, really on the ropes. Because it does look like Sweetpea and Kwabena, on their trip to Ghana, have found the silver bullet.”
The episode also explores the evolving relationship between Kwabena and Sweetpea, culminating in a moment of intimacy that highlights the emotional toll of their high-stakes environment. Jimoh describes this scene as a rare opportunity for the characters to shed their masks and connect on a deeper level. “In that moment, they just get to put that shame away and enjoy what they enjoy,” he explains.
Kwabena’s character contrasts sharply with the other ambitious figures in the series. Unlike many of his colleagues, he does not define himself solely by his work. Jimoh describes Kwabena as someone who seeks belonging and acceptance, stating, “For the most part, Kwabena’s just trying to cash a check.”
Insights on Filming and Future Directions
Entering the series as a newcomer, Jimoh quickly bonded with fellow cast members, including Kiernan Shipka, who plays Whitney’s assistant, Hayley Clay. He highlights the supportive atmosphere on set, especially regarding the intimate scenes, which he filmed on his first day. “Everyone’s really comfortable around them,” he notes. “They’ve built a real safe environment.”
As the plot unfolds, the stakes rise for Tender, with Whitney needing to devise a plan to salvage the company after the revelations from Ghana. “Whitney is gonna have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to save the company,” Jimoh warns, teasing viewers about the intense future developments.
Looking ahead, Jimoh expresses excitement about the series’ direction and the complex character arcs that keep audiences engaged. He believes that the show’s creators, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, aim to provoke thought rather than simply elicit sympathy for the characters. “I think the point of Industry is to try and understand what’s driving these characters to make the decisions that they’re making,” he reiterates.
As the series continues to air weekly until its finale on March 1, 2024, fans are left eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for Kwabena, Sweetpea, and the tumultuous world of finance depicted in Industry.
