Sacramento Urgently Seeks Public Feedback on Sound Policy Overhaul
UPDATE: The City of Sacramento is urgently calling for resident and business input on a groundbreaking initiative to modernize entertainment sound management policies. The new Community Sound Management Framework aims to address community concerns about noise from entertainment venues, and public feedback is crucial.
Developed by Sound Music Cities, the framework incorporates insights from over 1,100 survey responses and a comprehensive sound study. Don Pitts, president of Sound Music Cities, emphasized the community’s desire for change, stating, “The public has made it clear that they want to see improvements in how sound is managed.”
The proposed framework includes innovative strategies, such as integrating Sound Impact Plans with permits and appointing an official to ensure consistency across city departments. Key adjustments will also focus on enhanced communication efforts and the enforcement of source-based sound measurements to tackle persistent bass complaints.
Megan Van Voorhis, director of Convention and Cultural Services, highlighted the framework’s objective: “Our goal is to balance the quality of life for residents with the vibrancy of our city’s creative activities.” This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship between entertainment and community well-being.
Community meetings are scheduled for December 8, 9, and 10, 2023, providing an essential platform for residents, venue owners, and event organizers to voice their opinions. Dustin Hollingsworth, assistant director of Convention and Cultural Services, stated that this input will be instrumental in shaping the framework ahead of its anticipated adoption in 2026.
All relevant documents, including the full Community Sound Management Framework and the Sacramento Music Census, are currently available on the City’s official website. Your feedback is vital as Sacramento looks to usher in a new era of sound management that respects both community peace and entertainment vitality.
Residents are encouraged to participate and make their voices heard – this is a critical opportunity to influence how sound is managed in Sacramento. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this pivotal change!
